I'm getting an air purifier for my bedroom to facilitate me deal with cat allergies. I've read that I need one with a HEPA filter as well as an Ionizer to catch the less than .3 micron cat dander particles. While searching the net, I've found a few that have a HEPA clean and some sort of Plasma filtering technology. Will the plasma filter work like an Ionizer and collect the cat dander so the HEPA filter can remove it?

I have a neighbor who smokes very heavily and it comes sober into my room, I live in a two story house and I breathe in these fumes daily and it's worst at night. I have two air purifiers, 1 is Holmes Hepa Air purifier, the aide-de-camp one is Hamilton Beach Febreeze plug in air purifier, I also use a vaporizer to help me breathe better. Anyone know a valid air purifier to remove this smoke?

Contrary to all the rage opinion, there are specific air purifiers for specific purposes.

You should also ask you neighbor to smoke elsewhere, perhaps a different room so it's not so tolerant to have to smoke filter into your living space.

Ok so here' my hard. My neighbour is insane, I really think she belongs in an institution of some sort. I can probably write a list about her but that's not the point of this post. She smokes like crazy, probably 3 packs a day... I don't know I'm unprejudiced guessing but the problem is that I smell it all the time. Sometimes I can see her smoking out her window which you'd think would be a good thing, but I can visually see the cloud of smoke rolling it's way into my window. So much for getting alternative air in the apartment.

I should also mention that I live in France and the building was probably built 500 years ago, so ventilation is not very good-hearted. Insulation is not very good.

I would try talking to her but that's not really an option since she's incoherent most of the time. Yes I was serious when I said she should be in an institution. People often believe I'm just exaggerating and blowing things out of proportion yet as soon as they come over they agree with me that she's nuts.

So I've been theory about getting one of those air purifier/filters (with a hepa filter). Although I'm wondering if it would require good insultation to actually do anything, or if it will help at all. The apartment is not very well insulated, and there's no A/C so I predominantly want the windows open (French people are scared of air conditioning... sucks for me). Any other suggestions on how to practise with this situation would be great. I am considering moving but until that happens... Thanks.
In response to the "if it's only the smoke counter-statement", it's not... like I said I could write a book. But moving is definitely something I'm thinking about.

I have a cat who has been wheezing since she was about 4 months old and now she is 3. It may have started when she had a arcane illness when she was a kitten. The vet never gave me a diagnoses but fluids and antibiotics finally pulled her through. I have recently charmed her to two vets, one being a specialist of internal medicine. They have done x-rays which shows what looks like liquid in her lungs and ultrasound which proved it wasn't impetuosity related. My regular vet said it looked like bronchitis and/or asthma and the specialist said it looked like pneumonia and/or asthma. They gave her Baytril (two weeks) and Prednisone (about a month). They both helped while she was on them a negligible, but not too much. I do not want to use steroids again though.

I have 3 cats and she is the only one that wheezes. My cats use a corn based litter. They eat mostly Wellness and Propensity dry food but get canned food about every other day. I use all natural cleaners, and all natural fragrance free detergents. I do not use air freshener. I have two HEPA air purifiers in the leeway she is in. They cover a large enough area that I really only need one for the space she is in, but I have two. I have tried giving her bought raw chow, but even when I switch it slowly it gives her bloody stools, which the vet said was from either IBS or Salmonella, and to not give her raw food.

Other then some pretty bad episodes of wheezing she is salubrious and at a pretty good weight. It seems to get worse when she is stressed or playing. And she is neg for Aids/Leukemia.

If anyone has any suggestions on what to do or has had a like experience, I would love to hear your input!

I agree with you about the steroids, too.
I would not change anything you are doing. Here's some ideas, though:

Talk to your vet about a long term antibiotic. Baytril is an A- drug but sometimes pulmonary problems are very stubborn.
When my dog had pneumonia my vet tried several rounds of short term antibiotics but it irrevocably took a month of treatment.

Feed your cat mostly canned food & do what you can to push fluids. Offer low sodium bouillon, the liquid from canned tuna, etc. The fluids will help thin any mucous in her lungs.

You can also run a COOL mist humidifier/ vaporizer in her range.

If all else fails, you need to ask about the possibility of a diuretic (preferably a natural one) &/ or theophylline treatment.

i remember lots of room air purifiers use charcoal filters but is there any possible health risk from totally filtering all the air into a scope you live in with hepa/charcoal filters

none that i am sensitive of ....
